About

Maureen is a health advocate professional with proven experience in engaging, supporting and educating whānau to re-look at their health needs by improving their whole ‘matauranga’ (knowledge) of health and wellbeing from the inside & out.

Maureen has researched the health system for 4 years by taking on senior roles within Maori Service Organisations, Non-Government Organisations (NGO’s), Primary Care organisations and worked alongside the Northland Primary Health Organisations (PHO’s) and the Northland DHB.

Maureen grew up in a little township called 'Moerewa' where her childhood had her MOVING & playing every sport you could imagine. Week nights were specific sports training (Softball, Netball, Karate, Swimming, Touch, Tennis & Rugby). Weekends were spent travelling to respective venues for competition events. Maureen’s spare time was usually spent swimming with mates down at the river otherwise known as 'TUNA TOWN'.

Maureen is a descendant of the Great 'Warrior Chief' TAREHA of Ngati Rehia hapu, whakapapa to both Matauri Bay - Ngati Kura & Te Tii, Kerikeri and raised among Ngati Hine Uri. This in turn meant a lot of Christmas' on the marae alongside 62 first cousins!
