Brooke Maber
Occupational Therapist

About

Brooke graduated from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in 2013. Following graduating Brooke worked in a special school setting for 8.5 years where she worked with 5 – 21-year-olds with a variety of additional needs. Brooke brings years of experience with various diagnoses such as Autism, sensory processing disorder, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, complex medical needs and learning difficulties.

Within the school setting Brooke worked alongside children to support them to improve their function in the classroom. This included interventions to support handwriting, cutting skills, increasing both fine and gross motor skills. She also assisted children to improve activities of daily living (toileting, feeding, dressing), community engagement, activities that bring children joy and implementing complex equipment.

Brooke has completed the SOS approach to feeding basic training and advanced workshops and is passionate about running feeding groups that support children and families with picky or selective eating. Brooke is Bobath trained (Paediatric Understanding Normal Movement Workshop) and enjoys working with children to support active movement.

Brooke is looking forward to supporting the development of kid’s services at Active+ and working closely with families in the community. In her spare time, she loves getting out and walking her two German shorthaired pointers, gardening, reading and reformer Pilates.
