About

Originally from the UK, Rachel lived in the Netherlands, Taiwan and Australia before finally making it to New Zealand in 2016 for post-graduate study at the University of Canterbury.

Now based in Whanganui, Rachel operates as a mobile speech-language therapist serving the Manawatū-Whanganui region. She works with clients in their own homes and in community spaces, providing support with a wide range of communication and swallowing issues.

Rachel’s special interest is working with adults with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions, supporting them with speech, language and cognitive-communication issues. Rachel believes communication is an essential part of life, and access to communication is a basic human right. Her mission is to help clients and their families find ways to strengthen connections and increase life participation.

Rachel is trained in the counselling approaches Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT), is a certified provider of the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program and also the SPEAKOUT! speech program.

My Goals

Achieve certification in LSVT Loud (dysarthria treatment for people with Parkinson's Disease and other conditions)

Attend International Aphasia Rehabilitation Conference in Australia in 2024
