Christine Conning

I completed my BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in England in 2007. I moved to Vancouver, Canada, in 2008 where I met my kiwi husband and we moved to New Zealand together in 2016. I have worked for Active+ since I moved to NZ and have had two energetic daughters in that time as well.

I have mostly worked in private musculoskeletal outpatient settings but have also spent time working in a public hospital. I have experience and have sought extra training in areas such as sports injuries, post-op rehab, temporomandibular dysfunction, arthritis care, biomechanical issues, osteoporosis, oncology rehabilitation, pelvic girdle pain (pre-and post-partum) and headache management.

I have been certified to practice acupuncture since 2008 and find this is a safe and useful treatment for a wide range of issues. I also have training through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) for teaching Pilates, including a focussed course for treating women pre and post-partum. I often incorporate Pilates strategies into my rehabilitation plans as well as teaching small group classes at the Te Rapa clinic. I am a trained PINC physiotherapist, which means that I have the specialised knowledge and tools for treating women with cancer.

I love meeting people, listening to them, and figuring out how I can help. I feel it’s important to look at an individual as a whole, rather than ending up too focused on a condition or diagnosis.

My personal interests are numerous, but typically involve being active and outside, ideally on trails, up mountains, in and on the water, or charging about in the snow. I like to travel by foot, boards, boats, ropes and harnesses, bikes and horses (not all at once). I’ve enjoyed nurturing my kids love of the outdoors too and can’t wait for some epic adventures in the future! My more leisurely pursuits include playing the violin and eating dark chocolate. I also enjoy volunteering for the Cambridge Riding for the Disabled group when I have time.
